After a lifetime of weight struggles

I felt powerless to make long-term changes to my health and I thought I would never be happy with my image in the mirror. Trapped inside a body that didn’t reflect who I truly was, I spent my life on the sidelines, often embarrassed and ashamed of my size. I wore baggy clothes, and I tried to not bring attention to myself and “played small” in life.

While I love being around water – lakes, rivers, beaches – I rarely got in the water. Instead I would sit, covered up watching everyone else have fun. On occasions when I did get in the water, I was too self-conscious to truly enjoy it.

I missed out on so much in life over the years, saying no to opportunities and activities out of shame or fear that I just wouldn’t be able to physically handle it.

I hit my breaking point as my 40th birthday approached. Suffering from chronic migraines, scared of being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and seeing my kids following in my footsteps led me to draw my line in the sand and say “No more!”

I tried to exercise my weight off and follow better eating habits but after several months of dismal results, I felt again like a failure.

And then everything changed

when I started working with my health coach. She helped me with an easy-to-follow program and within weeks I started feeling better. I was so excited to see the changes in my body, month to month. I was practicing new habits, learning about nutrition and so thankful for the support of a health coach to walk the journey along side me.

Over the course of the year I shed just over 100 pounds in total – an amazing transformation! The best part? I had learned the tools to create a healthy lifestyle and I felt empowered to take control of all areas of my life. I can tell you, life is a lot more fun when you’re in the game instead of sitting on the sidelines.

Having the confidence and energy to go cycling with my teenage son, taking surf lessons with my daughter, and ziplining with my husband has not only made my life richer, but has improved the lives of my family and friends as well.

Inspired by my coach, and by realizing the impact I could have to help others transform their lives, I decided to start coaching others. I earned my Health Coach Certification from the Center for Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE). I feel like I’ve found my life’s work in coaching others to be the best version of themselves.

Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t always easy. But it’s so worth it. I was worth the effort, and you are too!
